Langdon Lexington has assembled the party to discuss an ambush for the assassin/saboteur. They are going to split up into 3 teams, each team with a spellcaster who can detect magic. When they locate the target they are to engage and detain them. To that end they come up with The Langdon Special for Brum-Dudde to use. There is some concern, because with the whole town gathered together, if the target is pretending to be someone notable, like a council member, the townspeople might not understand what is happening and get rowdy. Naea is brought in to help with that eventuality. Naea doesn’t think attacking the target is a good idea, and Langdon Lexington is reluctantly forced to agree. They sorta forget to tell Brum-Dudde about the updated plan however.
The town meeting is in full swing, with a very large turnout. Hyacinth Takeo surfs through the crowd looking for magical auras and finding several more than she was thinking she might. It turns out the town of United is not totally without magic. It is not long before she hones in on a strong magical presence, carrying multiple magical items. This must be their target. Hyacinth Takeo quickly informs the nearby party members: Langdon Lexington, Dashelle, and Brum-Dudde. Dashelle informs her psi-crystal to gather up the rest of the party and join them asap. Brum-Dudde haven’t not really been informed that the plan was to follow and track rather than subdue, makes a beeline for the target and wields The Langdon Special with great force, knocking the target out cold. A shocked silence hits the crowd. Langdon Lexington quickly hops in to take advantage of the silence, telling the people that it’s ok, Brum-Dudde was apprehending a criminal and they are now going to take him into custody. The crowd quickly dissolves into a chattering mess after that, and the party converges on the town lockup.
Everyone quickly arrives at the town lockup, where Langdon Lexington takes it on himself to strip search the target, who has remained unconscious. Ben Good attempts to wake up the target, but quickly realizes that there is nothing actually wrong with them. Ben utilizes doggie-wake-up-protocol-alpha to entice the target to acknowledge that they are awake. The jig is up and the target knows it. Now no longer needing to hide who he is, he tells the adventurers that his name is Kurmani and that he is the assassin of Orso. The party questions him further, but with little benefit to either side. Disgusted, Langdon Lexington orders Brum-Dudde to cut off Kurmani‘s hand, believing that once it is severed from his body, it will revert to its true form. He gives Brum-Dudde an adamantine dagger to perform the task. Brum-Dudde tries to sever the hand, but with no luck, and then switches to his axe, with similar results. It’s like striking a stone wall. Immensely frustrated, Langdon Lexington begins plotting terrible things to do to Kurmani.
